‘Salvage the Bones’ by Jesmyn Ward

Above Average: 85%

A well-written interpretation of the deep south leading up to hurricane katrina and a deserving winner of the National Book Award, though some critics remarked that it was a little overwritten and a bit heavy-handed when it comes to the mythology metaphor.
